JSW Steel Reinforces Safety Culture with Mock Drill

By Subrat Sarangi

Barbil: At JSW, safety is not merely a compliance requirement—it is a culture nurtured every day. JSW Steel’s Odisha Mining Division recently conducted a comprehensive fire safety mock drill across its mining operations, reaffirming its strong commitment to workplace safety and emergency preparedness. These drills highlight the company’s proactive approach to ensuring that every employee is equipped to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations.

The exercise was designed to assess the efficiency of evacuation procedures, the readiness of fire fighting equipment, and the coordination among employees during a simulated fire emergency. The mock drill was conducted to commemorate National Fire Service Week.

The drill commenced with the activation of the fire alarm, followed by the prompt evacuation of employees from designated areas. Fire fighting teams demonstrated the use of hydrants and extinguishers, while safety officers closely monitored response times and adherence to established protocols. Observers noted commendable participation and discipline among employees, while also identifying minor areas for improvement, particularly in underground signage and hydrant operations.

The company’s security department emphasized that regular fire safety training sessions are conducted to enhance awareness and preparedness. So far, 54 training sessions have been organized with the participation of 2,131 employees, including officials of JSW Steel, ITMS personnel, and contractual workers.

The event was successfully carried out by the security team.
