Chikiti NAC Delegation Visits Rayagada Municipality to Study Urban Sanitation Model

Rayagada, Dec 6 : A team from the Chikiti Notified Area Council (NAC) of Ganjam district visited Rayagada Municipality on Saturday to study the town’s sanitation management system, waste-processing facilities and ongoing urban development initiatives.

Led by Chikiti NAC Chairperson Ms. Deepa Sahu and Vice-Chairman Mr. Har Prasad Choudhury, the team comprised councillors, the Executive Officer, senior officials, departmental engineers, Swachh Sathi workers, Swachh Supervisors and sanitation experts.

The delegation received a warm civic reception from Rayagada Municipality officials upon arrival, followed by a formal interaction session at the Municipal Conference Hall.

Field Visit to Ward No. 11: Inspection of Key Waste-Management Facilities

The Chikiti delegation undertook a comprehensive field visit to Antariguda, located under Ward No. 11—an area regarded as a model sanitation zone within Rayagada Municipality.

The team inspected the functioning of:

• Micro Composting Centre (MCC)

• Material Recovery Facility (MRF)

• Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP)

Officials of Rayagada Municipality demonstrated the workflow of solid- and liquid-waste processing, segregation methods, recycling practices, compost output quality and real-time monitoring systems. The delegation expressed appreciation for Rayagada’s community-based waste management and its consistent performance in municipal sanitation indicators.

Visit to Civic Public-Service Assets

The team also inspected several major urban infrastructure projects administered by Rayagada Municipality, including:

• Rayagada Auditorium Complex

• Government Aahar Centre

• Ashok Kalyan Mandap

• Mahatma Gandhi Park

• Various ongoing urban development works executed under State and Central schemes

These facilities were showcased as examples of Rayagada’s efforts toward enhanced citizen services, public convenience, and community-focused urban planning.

Chikiti NAC: Nationally Recognised for Sanitation Excellence

Chikiti NAC is among the nationally recognised urban bodies awarded by the Hon’ble President of India under Swachh Survekshan 2024 for its remarkable sanitation initiatives. The visit to Rayagada was aimed at strengthening inter-municipal cooperation and exchanging innovative strategies for waste management and public-health services.

Joint Deliberations and Knowledge Exchange

The meeting saw active participation from the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Executive Officer, municipal councillors, staff members, Swachh Sathi workers, Swachh Supervisors and sanitation specialists of Rayagada Municipality.

Both sides held detailed discussions on:

• Improving urban sanitation standards

• Enhancing waste-processing efficiency

• Scaling up community participation

• Leveraging digital tools for cleanliness monitoring

• Exploring cross-learning opportunities between Rayagada and Chikiti

Officials from both municipalities expressed confidence that the collaborative exchange would help build more efficient, cleaner and citizen-friendly urban environments in their respective regions.
