The Ambanis meet US President-elect Trump, to attend his swearing-in ceremony
NEW DELHI, JAN 19 : Indian business tycoons Mukesh and Nita Ambani, who will attend Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony as President of the United States, posed for a photograph with the President-elect ahead of the event. The couple also attended a private reception in Washington on January 18.
The Ambanis, who share close ties with the Trump family, were among a select group of 100 global leaders and luminaries invited to the intimate gathering, news agency PTI reported.
‘Bring your own chips’ is now viral in India. But health experts have a warning
The Ambanis’ presence highlights their longstanding association with the Trump family. Mukesh Ambani was present when Ivanka Trump visited Hyderabad for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in 2017 during her tenure as an advisor to Donald Trump.
He also attended events during Donald Trump’s state visit to India in 2020. The relationship deepened further in 2024 when Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner, and their eldest daughter Arabella Rose attended the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani, Mukesh and Nita Ambani’s youngest son, and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for January 20, will take place indoors due to the extreme cold gripping Washington DC. This marks the first time since 1985 that a US presidential inauguration has been moved indoors.
The inauguration day will feature a traditional church service, a White House tea, and the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, followed by Trump’s inaugural address.
India will be officially represented at the event by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Other notable attendees include global business leaders such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sundar Pichai, as well as political figures like Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump won the 2024 US Presidential elections, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with a decisive victory in the Electoral College. Trump secured 312 electoral votes to Harris’ 226, flipping key battleground states and holding onto all the states he won in 2020. Notably, he became the first Republican to win Nevada since 2004.
The election followed a significant shift within the Democratic Party, as President Joe Biden opted not to seek reelection after serving one term.
Vice President Kamala Harris was nominated as the Democratic candidate, but her campaign failed to hold onto crucial swing states, paving the way for Trump’s return to the White House.
