Roger Binny succeeds Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president
NEW DELHI,OCT 10 : Former World Cup-winning all-rounder Roger Binny was elected unopposed as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president at the board’s latest Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, October 18th. Binny, 67, replaces Sourav Ganguly as the board chief, ending the former India captain’s 3-year tenure at the top job.

Binny, who played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India between 1979 and 1987, has held key positions in administration in the Karnataka State Cricket Association over the years. He has been the president of the KSCA since 2019. Binny also served as the national selector for the men’s cricket team in the past.
Binny was one of the stars of India’s World Cup triumph under Kapil Dev in 1983. In 8 matches, he picked up 18 wickets, a tournament-high in the World Cup in England.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah will continue to be BCCI secretary as he was elected unopposed for the role, which he took over in October 2019 after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators was dissolved.
There are two first-time appointments in the BCCI top brass as Maharashtra BJP leader Ashish Shelar will be the new treasurer, replacing Arun Singh Dhumal.
Secondly, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s close aide Devajit Saikia replaced Jayesh George as the new joint secretary.
Arun Singh Dhumal will take over as the new IPL chairman from Brijesh Patel, whose tenure has come to an end due to the age cap rule in the BCCI constitution.
Notably, Sourav Ganguly was offered the IPL chairmanship after several back-channel meetings in New Delhi over the last week, but the former India captain refused it. Jay Shah, meanwhile, is set to be BCCI’s representative to the ICC.
