Priyanka Gandhi gives it back to PM: ‘Shahenshah lives in castles’

NEW DELHI, MAY 4: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “shahenshah” (emperor) who lives in castles and can never understand the plight of the common man. Priyanka Gandhi’s use of the term “shahenshah” came in response to the Prime Minister’s constant reference to her brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi as “shehzaada”

Addressing the Nyay Sankalp Sabha in Banaskantha, Gujarat, she said, “He (PM Modi) calls my brother a ‘shehzaada’. But I want to tell him that this ‘shehzaada’ has walked a distance of 4,000 km. From Kanniyakumari to Kashmir, he walked to listen to the people’s problems. He asked everyone, from farmers to labourers, to tell him of their difficulties and ‘what can we do to resolve them’.”

“And on the other hand, is your ‘shahenshah’ (emperor) Narendra Modi. He lives in castles. Have you seen him on TV? His face is clean, his white kurta is always spotless without a single stain. His hair is perfect. How will he understand your labour, about your farms? How will he understand how expensive petrol and diesel is or how expensive farming is?,” she queried.

“GST has been imposed on every item, everything has become expensive. All this Modi ji will not understand, he is locked in his castle. He is surrounded by power, everyone is scared of him. No one says anything to him. And if anyone raises a voice, efforts are on to silence it.” the Congress leader asserted.

Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks came just hours after the Prime Minister’s latest dig at Rahul Gandhi at a poll rally in Jharkhand’s Palamu.

PM Modi said that Pakistani leaders, shaken by surgical strikes, were praying for the ‘shehzaada’ to become the next Prime Minister.

“During the Congress government, there used to be bomb blasts, terrorists used to fire bullets and the government used to send them love letters. They had ‘Aman ki Aas’. Pakistan used to send more terrorists than love letters. But one vote of yours gave me so much power that I said ‘enough is enough’ as soon as I came. This is New India, ‘ghar mein ghus ke maarta hai’,” he said.

“The surgical and the Balakote strikes shook Pakistan. There was a time when, after a terror attack, the weak Congress government used to cry all over the world. Now Pakistan is crying all over the world and is shouting ‘bachao, bachao’ (help). Leaders in Pakistan are praying that Congress’ ‘shehzaada’ becomes the Prime Minister. But the strong India only wants a strong government now.”
