Bhubaneswar, June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit President Droupadi Murmu’s village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday before attending the state government’s second anniversary celebrations and launching development projects worth more than Rs 47,600 crore.

In a rare public engagement, the President and the Prime Minister will jointly visit Pahadpur, closely associated with Ms Murmu’s family, before participating in a state-level programme at Rairangpur.

President Murmu will arrive in Rairangpur on Friday evening after concluding her Madhya Pradesh visit. She is scheduled to inaugurate a special AIIMS-organised health camp at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, virtually launch a drinking water supply project covering 113 mining-affected villages, and dedicate the Matrushakti Bhavan at Hatbadra.

On Saturday, Mr Modi will land at Pahadpur around 11.05 am and join the President in visiting sites of cultural and religious significance. The two leaders will offer prayers at sacred Santhal and Ho community Jaheras and visit the village’s Gosani shrine.

They will also visit the SLS Memorial Residential School and Skill Development Centre, where they are scheduled to pay floral tributes at memorial statues of the President’s late husband and two sons and interact with students.

Officials said the visit underscores the Centre’s focus on tribal empowerment, rural education, skill development and inclusive growth.

The President and Prime Minister will later travel to Rairangpur to attend a programme marking two years of the Mohan Charan Majhi government. The event, themed “Bikashara Dhara, Odisha Sara” (Development Across Odisha), will feature the inauguration, dedication and foundation stone-laying of projects worth over Rs 47,600 crore.

Key projects include the 600-MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project, expansion of the Ib Thermal Power Station, the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited project in Jharsuguda, road and irrigation infrastructure, healthcare facilities, public transport projects and sports infrastructure.

Mr Modi will also address a public gathering before returning to New Delhi.
