Guwahati, Jany 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will visit Assam on 14 February. On this occasion, he will formally inaugurate and dedicate to the people of Assam the six-lane bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, constructed at a cost of ₹3,000 crore.
Since the BJP came to power in Assam in 2016, six new bridges over the Brahmaputra have been completed in the last ten years. In contrast, during the 55 years of Congress rule in the state, only three bridges were constructed. Beyond bridge construction, the BJP-led government has ushered in transformative improvements in the state’s connectivity by constructing more than 1,000 kilometres of national and state highways, thereby bringing about a paradigm shift in Assam’s transportation infrastructure.
Significantly, 14 February will also mark the formal launch of the Assam BJP’s campaign for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. At the Khanapara Veterinary College playground in Guwahati, in the presence of more than one lakh party karyakartas, including booth presidents, Panna Pramukhs, and Labharthi Pramukhs from over 30,000 booths across the state, the Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering and effectively sound the election bugle for the 2026 Assembly polls.
Earlier in the day, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the “Suggestion Collection Van” for the preparation of the BJP’s election manifesto (Sankalp Patra) from the Khanapara Veterinary College playground. The programme was attended by Assam BJP President and MP from the Darrang–Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency, Shri Dilip Saikia; Prabhari of the 2026 Assembly elections,MP Shri Baijayant Jay Panda; Convener of the election campaign and MP from Lakhimpur, Shri Pradan Baruah; and BJP’s North East In-Charge and MP, Shri Sambit Patra.
In a press statement issued from the BJP’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, at Basistha, party spokesperson Shri Pranjal Kalita stated that the BJP will prepare its 2026 election manifesto by placing the hopes and aspirations of the people at the very centre. Every suggestion received from the public will be treated as a guiding directive, and the party will approach the forthcoming Assembly elections with a people-centric vision. He further expressed confidence that, for the all-round development of Assam’s indigenous communities and for the protection of the state’s rich civilizational heritage, the people of Assam will once again re-elect the BJP-led NDA government for a third consecutive term.
