Man Held With Two Country-Made Pistols,  in Jajpur

Jajpur/Odisha , Aug 28 : Korei police in Odisha’s Jajpur district have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly possessing firearms illegally and seized two country-made pistols, two magazines, five rounds of ammunition and a BMW motorcycle from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Michel Santosh (24), son of Michel Naga of Purbakote village under Korei police station.

According to police, on August 28, Assistant Sub-Inspector T. Sahu was conducting daytime patrolling with police personnel in the Purbakote, Ragadi and Ranapur areas when he received information from a reliable source that Santosh was moving around Purbakote on a BMW motorcycle bearing registration number OD05BP 5501, allegedly carrying an unlicensed country-made pistol.

Acting on the information, the police team proceeded to Purbakote. On noticing the police, Santosh allegedly displayed the firearm and attempted to escape. The police, however, managed to apprehend him near Purbakote Haat, close to the house of a person identified as Pulli Gariba.

During a personal search, police allegedly recovered a country-made pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition from his possession. The firearm, ammunition and BMW motorcycle were seized in the presence of witnesses.

During interrogation at the police station, Santosh allegedly disclosed that another pistol was kept at his residence. Subsequently, investigating officer Sub-Inspector B. Biswal, accompanied by the accused, conducted a search of his house in Purbakote and allegedly recovered another country-made pistol and two rounds of ammunition from the kitchen.

Police have registered Korei PS Case No. 319 dated August 28, 2026, under Sections 25(1-AA) and 28 of the Arms Act, 1959, against the accused.
