Journalist Association of Assam.(JAA) : Condoled the Demise of Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty, President of “JAA” and a Stalwart of Assam’s Journalism

 Guwahati, Feb 22: The President of the Journalist Association of Assam (JAA), Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty, passed away today at 7:00 a.m. at a private hospital in Guwahati due to age-related ailments. He was 97  A senior and distinguished journalist of Assam, Chakravarty had been serving as the President of “JAA” until his last breath. His demise is an irreparable loss to the association.

An emergency meeting was held today under the presidentship of JAA’sVice President Sandeep Sharma, where members expressed deep sorrow at the passing of President Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty. The meeting prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Speaking at the condolence meeting, JAA’s Secretary Dalim Phukan stated that the veteran journalist had been elected President of “JAA” for four consecutive terms since 2015 and remained in office until his demise. He worked tirelessly for the safety and security of journalists and, during a conference of the International Federation of Journalists held in Kathmandu, Nepal, exerted international pressure on the Government of India to implement the Journalist Protection Act.

At the meeting, JAA’s Executive Member Sudip Sharma,  Joint Secretary Mayukh Goswami, JAA’s Advisor and NUJI Vice President Bhupen Goswami also spoke, highlighting the significant contributions of the late President to society.

As a mark of respect to the departed journalist, “JAA” has decided to fly the association’s flag at half-mast and observe seven days of mourning.
