CreditAccess Grameen Limited Fuels Entrepreneur’s Journey towards Self-Reliance in Rural Odisha

Bhubaneswar/Odisha, Sep12 : Institutions like CreditAccess Grameen Limited are playing a key role in providing timely and accessible microfinance loans to underserved communities, helping transform dreams into sustainable businesses.
One such story is that of Gitanjali from Guhaldi village. Five years ago, she began her journey by taking a micro-loan of ₹30,000 from the Soro branch of CreditAccess Grameen to start a small grocery shop. With careful financial management, dedication and regular repayments, she gradually grew her business. Over time, based on her strong repayment track record, she received higher loan support. With her most recent loan of ₹2,00,000, Gitanjali further expanded her business by opening a cloth store, which is now managed by her husband. She also bought an auto-rickshaw, creating an additional source of income for the family.
Gitanjali expressing her gratitude said,“CreditAccess Grameen Limited believed in me when I had only a small dream. Step by step, the organization supported my growth and guided me with trust and respect. Today my family is financially secure, my husband has stable work, and my child is receiving better education. I will always be thankful to the organisation for helping me become independent”
With multiple sources of income, Gitanjali’s family has seen a clear improvement in their quality of life. Her child now attends an English-medium school, and the family enjoys greater financial stability. Her journey has strengthened her role as a confident entrepreneur and a source of inspiration for other women in her community.
In Odisha, the microfinance sector has built a strong presence, with a gross loan portfolio (GLP) of ₹17,155 crore and serves over 35 lakh unique borrowers. Ranked among the top 10 states in terms of GLP, Odisha stands out as a key microfinance market, where access to small loans is enabling families to improve their income, create livelihoods, and drive positive change at the grassroots level.
