Child trafficking racket busted in Delhi, newborns sold for Rs 6 lakh

NEW DELHI, APR 6: Three newborn babies were rescued after the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted raids at seven locations across Delhi and Haryana in connection with child trafficking. The raids were carried out in several areas in Rohini and Keshavpuram on Friday evening.

Seven people, including women and a hospital staffer, allegedly involved in selling and buying children have been arrested by the agency and are being questioned.

Investigation so far revealed that the accused, through advertisements on social media platforms, used to connect with childless couples across India who desired to adopt babies.

They allegedly purchased babies from parents as well as surrogate mothers and thereafter sold the infants at prices ranging from Rs 4 to 6 lakh. The accused were also allegedly involved in duping many childless couples by creating fake documents related to adoption, CBI press release stated.

The CBI had received information about the selling of infants, after which raids were conducted. During the searches, three newborns were rescued. Incriminating articles, Rs 5.5 lakh cash and other documents were also recovered during searches.
