Woman doctor issues video apology over male corpses’ private parts comment

NEW DELHI, JUNE 11 : A woman doctor who sparked outrage with her remarks about comparing the private parts of male cadavers at comedian Pranit More’s show has apologised in a video message, admitting that she “said a very wrong thing” and expressing regret over the controversy.

The woman, identified as Sejal Pawar, came under fire after a clip from More’s show went viral on social media. During an audience interaction, Pawar spoke about anatomy-related experiences involving cadavers and claimed that she and her colleagues would compare the sizes of male cadavers’ private parts. The remark was made after More asked whether doctors remain serious or crack jokes while conducting autopsies.

“I just wanted to come here and say I am very sorry. I said a very wrong thing. I am so sorry about that,” she said in a video message, adding: “Maine aisa kabhi intentionally nahi socha thaa ki main woh cheez bolungi (I never intentionally thought that I would say something like that).”

Pawar said she had never intended for her comments to be perceived in that manner and insisted she was not trying to “justify” what she had said. She acknowledged that the remark was inappropriate and said she regretted making it.

Pawar said the now-viral clip was recorded around two months ago during the first stand-up comedy show she attended. Furthermore, Pawar said she had been “really very naive” and did not anticipate that a brief segment from the interaction would be viewed in isolation and attract widespread criticism. However, she stressed that she was not trying to justify her actions and accepted responsibility for the remark.

“I had no idea that a 2-month-old clip would become such a big issue,” she said, adding: “I am never going to justify this. I know it is my mistake.”

She further claimed that she had emphasised during the interaction that she and her colleagues respected cadavers, but admitted that one particular comment should never have been made. Pawar also promised to be more careful about her public statements going forward.

She added that social media users were justified in calling out problematic behaviour and said she wanted to ensure she was never associated with such comments in the future.

Concluding her apology, she said she regretted hurting people’s sentiments: “Maine agar aapke sentiments hurt kiye toh, I am sorry (If I have hurt your sentiments, I am sorry).”

After Pawar’s clip from the comedy show went viral, many viewers described the remarks as insensitive and disrespectful towards body donors.

Sejal Pawar’s remarks mark the second audience interaction from Pranit More’s show to spark widespread backlash. The controversy follows the viral “Rs 370 biryani” episode involving Gurugram resident Himanshu Jangra, whose comments about expecting a “return” after paying for a date ignited a national debate on misogyny, consent and entitlement, and ultimately cost him his job.
