By Dalim Phukan
Guwahati, March 25:With a pledge for development, progress, and the protection of indigenous Assamese people, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today campaigned in Nagaon and appealed to the public to bless the BJP with their votes.
Addressing a massive gathering held at Bhutai Deka playground under the Nagaon–Batadrava constituency in support of NDA candidate Rupak Sharma, the Chief Minister, in his characteristic style, greeted the women and said that it was a sacred day—Maha Saptami—and that Goddess Durga’s blessings would guide them to do good work.
He said that from Dhubri to Sadiya and from Jonai to Silchar, he has witnessed unprecedented love and support from the people. According to him, people will vote enthusiastically for the BJP this time, leading to the formation of a government under BJP leadership along with AGP and BPF.
Criticizing the opposition alliance, he remarked that the opposition has lost its relevance. He stated that during their tenure, 1.65 lakh jobs were provided without any monetary exchange, something previously thought impossible but achieved due to public support.
Highlighting the aspirations of the youth, he said that their hopes must be fulfilled, otherwise they may become discouraged. Therefore, the government plans to provide 2 lakh jobs in the coming term.
He further said that the government has successfully freed encroached lands of satras and temples, restoring their sanctity. In this term, 1.5 lakh bighas of land have been cleared, and in the next five years, 5 lakh bighas of encroached land will be cleared.
Mentioning welfare schemes, he said that 15 lakh women will newly benefit under the Orunodoi scheme, including 10,000 women from Nagaon. He also announced financial assistance of Rs25,000 for women and support for children’s education.
Taking a dig at Congress, he questioned whether such welfare schemes existed earlier and said people responded negatively. He mockingly suggested that Congress should abandon its hand symbol and contest under a “lungi” symbol.
In a lighter tone, he said that those who get jobs should get married within a year. He also mentioned a plan to support unemployed youth interested in business by providing Rs2 lakh each to 10 lakh youths, including 10,000 from Nagaon.
Referring to Congress candidate Dr. Durlabh Chamua, he said that even 10% development was not achieved during his tenure, while praising Rupak Sharma for unprecedented development over the past 10 years.
He stated that people’s love is his strength and that BJP never tires of working. He described votes as a powerful tool that transforms into strength and said that with public support, they can continue working without obstacles.
On the upcoming election results, he said that people want BJP and its allies to win all 126 seats.
He also mentioned plans to reduce travel time between Nagaon and Guwahati by constructing an express highway, enabling easier commuting for people working in Guwahati.
Expressing confidence, he said BJP and its allies will win by a record margin and that the next government will again be formed under BJP leadership, dedicated to serving the people. He emphasized their commitment to building a strong Assam with public support.
He added that the overwhelming support from the people of Nagaon–Batadrava proves that they stand with development and BJP. This enthusiasm will further strengthen BJP’s commitment to Assam’s security and development.
At the Vijay Sankalp rally, chaired by Nagaon District BJP President Suvarna Singh, NDA candidate Rupak Sharma said that he has worked tirelessly for the constituency over the past 10 years with people’s blessings, bringing a new transformation to Nagaon.
Other leaders present included Suresh Bora, Seemanta Bora, Geetanjali Hazarika, Ambika Majumdar, Rashmi Sharma, and AGP leader Manimadhav Mahanta, among others.
