Khordha /Odisha, Mar 15: A critical situation has arisen over cooking gas in khordha and its surrounding areas.Due to the ongoing war in West Asia and instability in the international market, the common people are facing unprecedented problems due to supply disruptions.
A large number of customers have been seen standing in long lines in front of gas distribution centers since midnight holding their gas cylinders. Even after booking for the last 20 to 25 days, home delivery is not available, as a result of which people are forced to crowd gas distribution centers to get the cylinders themselves.
Due to the impact of the war, there has been a shortage of gas worldwide and its price has increased. After increasing by Rs 60 per domestic gas cylinder from March 7, its price has reached Rs 939.To prevent hoarding, a 25-days gap has been imposed in bookings, which has further increased the anxiety of consumers.
Even though the government and oil companies have been assuring that gas supply will be normalized, the situation at Ground Zero is still complicated and people are panicking due to the fear of black marketing. Gas cylinders, which used to cost ₹ 1,000, are now being sold in the khordha area for ₹ 1,800 to ₹ 2,000.
As gas is not available in the market now, cooking is being hampered due to fuel shortage.Due to the shortage of gas cylinders, people have now turned to electric induction cookers. While the demand for induction cookers was not that much earlier, now its demand has increased drastically. It is said that khordha district administration has taken extensive steps to prevent gas black marketing.
