Guwahati, Feb.1 2026: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the legendary warrior and iconic hero Vishva Mahabir Chilarai, the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Member of Parliament from the Darrang–Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency, Dilip Saikia, paid rich tribute to the valiant hero. While remembering the immortal warrior, Shri Saikia stated that among those great heroes whose valour continues to be celebrated with pride across the world, Chilarai occupies an exalted place, without whom every page of Koch history remains incomplete. He offered heartfelt homage to the supreme commander whose legacy still illuminates the annals of history. Shri Saikia recalled that Chilarai, whose original name was Sukladhwaj Singha, was the younger brother of Maharaja Naranarayan and the fearless commander-in-chief of the Koch army. Like a falcon (Chila), he would swoop upon enemy forces with unmatched courage. He was renowned for extraordinary feats such as crossing rivers in a single leap while mounted on horseback. Because of his unparalleled bravery and swiftness in battle, Sukladhwaj Singha came to be glorified as “Vishva Mahabir Chilarai.” He further stated before the media that merely hearing the name of Chilarai would strike terror into the hearts of enemy forces, causing them to tremble in fear. Even today, the world places Chilarai in the same heroic lineage as the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the legendary French commander Napoleon Bonaparte, recognising his stature as a universal symbol of military brilliance and indomitable spirit.

Meanwhile, the President of the State BJP Other Backward Classes (OBC) Morcha, Subhash Dutta, informed the media that  todag on 1st February, a comprehensive programme was organised at 9:00 a.m. at the State BJP headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan,  commemorating the “World-Renowned Mahabir.” He further announced that under the initiative of the Morcha, all 39 district units  observed Chilarai Divas with day-long programmes across the state, paying homage to the heroic legacy of the great warrior.
