Exploring Odia Theatre: Seminar and Drama Presentation at Shailabala College

Cuttack, Dec. 8: A seminar on Odia Theatre, accompanied by a live performance, was organized at Madhusudan Auditorium, courtesy of a collaborative effort between the Postgraduate Odia department of Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College and ‘Simile’ theatre troupe, Jajpur Road.  The event featured Principal of the college, Professor Jivan Ballav Jena on the chair with renowned screen-writer and lyricist Vijay Malla as the chief guest, and retired English professor and distinguished theatre-activist, Sukant Rout as the keynote speaker, who shed light on the past, present and future of Odia Theatre.

 Dr. Chitta Ranjan Panda introduced the guests while head of the department, Dr. Sanjita Mishra outlined the agenda of the seminar. The event proceedings were summarised by Dr. Vikas Maharana, with Dr. Sujnani Kumari Sahu as moderator. Participants in the discussion included Prof.Dr. Menaka Rani Sahu, Prof. Gyan Vijayini Beura, Prof. Srilekha Panda, and students from various departments. Dr. Narendra Nath Nayak expressed gratitude with a vote of thanks. The event concluded with ‘Sariputta’, a play staged by ‘Simili’ Theatre Troupe.
