Rajendra University celebrates poet Gangadhar Meher’s birth anniversary with grandeur

Balangir, Aug. 26: Rajendra University recently marked the birth anniversary of the revered Odia poet Gangadhar Meher with a vibrant celebration. The event was chaired by the university’s Registrar, Sri Haraprasad Bhoi, while Dr. Sushant Kumar Panda, Head of the Odia Department, skillfully moderated the proceedings.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests, including Dr. Sushama Manjari Naik as the chief speaker, Dr. Rajkishore Patra, Chairperson of the Postgraduate Council, as the chief guest, Professor Madan Mohan Pradhan from the Science Department as the guest of honor, and Dr. Narendra Raut, Chief Controller of Examinations, as the special invitee.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by guest faculty member Shubhranshu Behera, who introduced the dignitaries and handed over the stage to the department head. Students of the Odia Department added a melodious touch to the event with a welcome song and a soulful rendition of Gangadhar Meher’s iconic poem, ‘Bishwa Dekha Madhumaya re Jeevana Sangeeta,’ enhancing the event’s charm.
In his welcome address, Dr. Sushant Kumar Panda elaborated on the essence and evolution of Gangadhar Meher’s literary contributions. Registrar Sri Haraprasad Bhoi, in his presidential address, highlighted the influence of Sanskrit literature on Meher’s works. Chief Guest Dr. Rajkishore Patra discussed the Indian philosophical elements in Meher’s poetry, while Professor Madan Mohan Pradhan spoke on the poet’s vivid portrayal of nature in the modern context. Dr. Narendra Raut shed light on the expansive literary horizons of Gangadhar Meher’s creations.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by guest faculty member Sri Debashish Mahapatra. The program was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of guest faculty members Abakash Patel, Sunayana Behera, Mamata Podh, and Sasmita Patra, along with the enthusiastic participation of the department’s students.
