APCON-2024 Pre-Conference Workshop at Utkal Hospital

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 11: The pre-conference workshop of APCON-2024 was held on Wednesday at the state’s premier multi-specialty Utkal Hospital in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
The workshop provided hands-on training and demonstrations on various critical topics, including the role and limitations of frozen sections (FS) in diagnosing thyroid gland, gastroenterological, urological, gynecological, breast, and soft tissue neoplasms. Additional focus areas included intraoperative imprint/squash smears in central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms and head and neck malignancies.
This workshop was part of the 72nd annual conference of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM) and the Indian Association of Pathologists – Indian Division (IAP-ID), organized by the Department of Pathology at S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack, in collaboration with Odisha Pathology. The conference runs from December 11 to 15.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Niharika Patnaik from Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Indranil Chakrabarti, Additional Professor at AIIMS Kalyani. Notable faculty members included Dr. Santosh Kumar Mandal, Professor of Pathology at AIIMS Kalyani; Dr. Santosh Menon, Professor of Pathology at THM Mumbai; Dr. Subasini Naik, Dr. Palak Nanda, Dr. Banashri Devi, and Dr. Manas Baisakh, all from Utkal Hospital.
During the lamp-lighting ceremony, Dean of Academics at Utkal Hospital, Prof. Dr. Prafulla Kumar Das, addressed the gathering alongside other distinguished guests. Later, Utkal Hospital’s Managing Director, Dr. Pragyan Ranjan Ghadei, joined the workshop, exchanging thoughts with participants and applauding the collaborative spirit of the event.
The workshop served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and professional networking among pathologists and medical professionals from across the country.
