AAP to go solo in Delhi Assembly elections, no alliance with Congress: Gopal Rai

NEW DELHI, JUN 6 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday confirmed that it would contest the Assembly election solo without an alliance. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said that the alliance with Congress was for the Lok Sabha elections and there wouldn’t be an alliance in the Delhi Assembly polls.

The party will face assembly elections early in 2025.

The decision came with the conclusion of a meeting held with AAP Delhi MLAs at the Chief Minister’s residence in the national capital on Thursday. During the meeting, the AAP legislators were asked to resume development work in their respective constituencies on every Saturday and Sunday.

The Delhi Minister also said that the development work in Delhi had stopped due to the Model Code of Conduct in place for the Lok Sabha polls.

The AAP called for a meeting of the Delhi Councillors on Saturday (June 8) while the party workers will meet on June 13.

Having contested 22 seats across five states — Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Assam — AAP could secure victory in three seats in Punjab.

The AAP, which faced a drubbing in the recently announced Lok Sabha election results in Punjab, could secure a lead in only 33 assembly segments of the total 117, which are part of the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, according to Election Commission data.

The party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections comes two years after the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit bagged 92 of 117 assembly seats in the 2022 assembly elections.
