2 sisters gang-raped in Chhattisgarh, BJP leader’s son among 10 arrested

Chhattisgarh ,Sept 2 : Two girls, sisters, were gang-raped in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur while returning from celebrating Raksha Bandhan with one of the victim’s fiance. The incident unfolded when a group of ten assailants forcibly blocked their path and carried out the horrific assault.

According to police, three of the accused first intercepted them when they were returning. The trio allegedly robbed them of cash and mobile phones. The other seven accused reached the spot on four motorcycles. In the meantime, the accused took the two sisters to an isolated place away from the main road and allegedly raped them.

The man accompanying the two girls was also subjected to severe physical violence.

Police registered a case upon receiving the information. Ten men, including the son of a local BJP leader, were arrested.

The accused include individuals with a history of criminal activities, with Poonam Thakur, one of the main suspects, having been recently released on bail in August 2023. Poonam Thakur is the son of local BJP leader Laxmi Narayan Singh.
