Cuttack. 30: Ollywood actress Varsha Priyadarshini has been issued summons by Delhi’s Patiala House Court and directed to appear before it on January 4 in connection with a casteist remark case.
The court has also asked Varsha’s mother Deepa Sahu and niece Ayushi Priyadarshini to appear on the date in connection with the case registered against them at the North Avenue police station in Delhi.
The actress and her relatives have been accused of hurling casteist remarks against a staffer of her husband and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Lok Sabha member Anubhav Mohanty.
Later, a case was registered against the trio on October 28, 2022 under Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On November 17, 2022, Devender Kumar Jangala, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) -05 of New Delhi District Patiala House Court, conducted a hearing in the case and took cognizance of the offence punishable under Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Section 506 of the IPC.
“Let, all three accused persons Varsha Priyadarshini, Ayushi Priyadarshini and Deepa Sahu be summoned through the investigating office for next date,” Jangala said.
The next hearing has been scheduled for January 4, 2023.
The BJD MP has filed a divorce petition against the actress citing that their marriage has not consummated because of their latter’s reluctance.
