During the meeting, technical sessions were held during which specific suggestions and comments were sought from G20 members and invitees on India’s proposals.

These suggestions will further feed into the Ministerial communique, which will be adopted during the Trade and Investment Ministerial meeting that is scheduled to take place in Jaipur on August 24-25, 2023.

Five priority areas were discussed extensively during the first and second days of the meeting. These issues include trade for growth and prosperity, ease of doing business and global value chains (GVCs), integrating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into world trade, and logistics for trade and reforms in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the working agenda of the meeting has been prepared to keep in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call that the G20 outcome should be action-oriented and focus on the challenges being faced by the Global South.

The outcome of this meeting will enable building a shared understanding of the challenges facing accelerating global trade & investment, and develop pathways that can leverage existing opportunities to make growth inclusive and transparent.

Earlier, a seminar on ‘Trade Infrastructure’ was held, in which detailed discussions on the role of logistics in expanding Global Value Chains (GVCs) and the global significance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) were discussed.
