Six workers killed after being run over by an engineless train at Jajpur Road Railway Station

JAJPUR,JUNE 7 : At least six workers were killed and two sustained serious injuries after an engineless goods train ran over them near Jajpur – Keonjhar Road station in Jajpur district on Wednesday afternoon.
They had taken shelter under the bogie of a stationary goods train stationed at Jajpur Road station to protect themselves from the untimely rain and gusty wind. The train did not have an engine but it started slowly rolling due to the impact of the strong winds as a result they were crushed to death under the wheels of the goods train, said Upendra Pradhan, the IIC of Jajpur Road police station.
Some contractual labourers engaged by a contractor for Railway Work took shelter under the stabled rake to get protection from the wind and rain of Norwester near Jajpur Keonjhar Road. A monsoon Reserve Rake without Engine reserved at the sick line near Jajpur Keonjhar Road rolled on due to heavy thunderstorms. As a result, six people were run over and some were injured. Necessary steps are being taken by Railways, in this regard. Divisional Railway Officials led by DRM Khurda Road rushed to the spot, said a senior railway official.
