AAP’s Raghav Chadha suspended from Rajya Sabha over misconduct allegation
NEW DELHI,AUG 11 : Aam Aadmit Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has been suspended from Rajya Sabha till the Privilege Committee submits its findings on the allegation against him for forging the signatures of five MPs in a motion related to the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
Four Rajya Sabha MPs had claimed that Chadha included their names without their permission in a motion on August 7. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, on Wednesday, sent the complaints of the MPs to the privileges committee to look into the matter.
The MPs, Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M Thambidurai, and Narhari Amin, accused Chadha of adding their names to a House panel without asking them.
The resolution to suspend Raghav Chadha was moved by Piyush Goyal, who is the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, AAP said that the suspension was not over the allegations of “forgery or fake signatures” and said it was over the AAP leader’s press conference on Wednesday.
“The said suspension has been made due to Raghav’s press conference yesterday defending himself in the alleged breach of matter. Nowhere has Piyush Goyal’s motion for suspension or notice served by the Privilege Committee mentioned the words – forgery, fake, signatures, farziwada etc. It doesn’t even remotely allege anything to this effect,” AAP said.
Meanwhile, the AAP accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “making deliberate attempts to implicate” Chadha. The party said that the allegations of ‘forged signatures’ against Raghav Chadha were “false and politically motivated” and accused the BJP of targeting Chadha for speaking against the party.
Sayin AAP said that the rules of the proceedings state “no written consent or signature of the member whose name has been proposed”.
