Raids at 50 locations across 6 states in crackdown on Khalistani-gangster nexus

NEW DELHI,SEPT 27: In a crackdown on the Khalistani-gangster nexus, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday raided multiple locations across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

During its raid, the NIA detained gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dala’s aide, Sunder alias Jora, from Punjab’s Ferozepur. Jora will be questioned in Chandigarh.

According to the details, the raids were underway at more than 50 locations across the mentioned states.

The development comes amid diplomatic tensions between India and Canada after Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, alleged “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of a Khalistani extremist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, on his country’s soil on June 18 in British Columbia, a charge rejected by New Delhi as “absurd” and “motivated”.

Sources with the NIA said Khalistani and gangster elements based in other countries were funding overground workers in India through hawala channels for drugs and weapons.

Sources also said the probe agency received inputs on the Khalistani-ISI and gangster nexus.

Information retrieved from gangsters and Khalistanis arrested under the UAPA so far revealed that the nexus is involved in terrorist funding, weapon supply and conducting anti-national activities from foreign soil.

The raids on Wednesday were underway at 30 locations in Punjab, 13 locations in Rajasthan, four locations in Haryana, two locations in Uttarakhand and separate locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Amid the diplomatic row, India recently announced temporarily suspending the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country.
