Pune girl taking selfie falls into 60-foot gorge, rescued
Maharashtra , Aug 4 : A 29-year-old girl fell off a deep gorge at Borane Ghat in Maharashtra while trying to click a selfie on Saturday.
The girl was rescued with the help of the Home Guard and local residents. The incident occurred amidst heavy rain in the region, which has caused waterfalls, including Thoseghar, to overflow.
On Saturday, a group from Pune visited the Thoseghar waterfall. While taking a selfie at Borane Ghat, 29-year-old Nasreen Amir Qureshi from Warje, Pune, slipped and fell into a 60-foot-deep gorge.
Nasreen was successfully pulled out of the gorge and immediately admitted to a private hospital in Satara for treatment. Her condition remains critical.
The incident highlights the ongoing risk posed by excessive rainfall in the Satara district. District Collector Jitendra Dudi ordered the closure of tourist spots and waterfalls from August 2 to 4 to prevent such accidents. However, the allure of these natural sites continues to draw visitors, some of whom are risking their lives.
A video of the incident, showing Nasreen falling while attempting to take a selfie, has gone viral on social media, sparking discussions about the dangers of such activities. The trend of taking selfies in hazardous locations for the sake of social media fame has become increasingly common, often with tragic results.
