Guwahati, Feb. 12: SPS Construction India has completed the much-anticipated Guwahati–North Guwahati Bridge over the Brahmaputra River. The landmark project will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14. The bridge is being hailed as a major boost to connectivity in Assam and the wider Northeast region.
Spanning more than one kilometre, the structure has been built across the Brahmaputra—one of India’s most challenging rivers. Once operational, it is expected to significantly cut travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati, reduce traffic congestion, and improve both passenger movement and goods transportation.
Rohit Singla, Director of SPS Construction India, said the bridge reflects the government’s forward-looking infrastructure vision and sustained support. “Our task was to translate this vision into a strong, safe, and durable structure. We are confident the bridge will serve the transportation needs of the region for decades,” he said.
The bridge features a modern extradosed design, offering enhanced strength and stability compared to conventional suspension bridges. The design is particularly suited to large rivers like the Brahmaputra. Completing the project despite fluctuating river conditions highlights the company’s technical capability and execution efficiency.
By directly linking the northern and southern parts of Guwahati, the bridge is expected to ease daily commuting, stimulate local trade, and strengthen the region’s logistics network.
Authorities ensured strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental norms throughout the construction process, with regular monitoring carried out by the concerned departments.
