Prime Minister inaugurates projects in Assam in a single day nearly equivalent to the total size of the last budget of the Congress government in the state

Guwahati, 14 Mar : The last budget presented by the Congress government in Assam had a total outlay of ₹50,000 crore for the entire financial year. In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated projects worth ₹47,800 crore in the state in a single day.

Addressing a press conference today at the BJP State Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, party spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami stated that during his visit to Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a major journey of development in sectors such as connectivity, energy, railways, waterways, agriculture, and tourism.

During this visit, the Prime Minister launched several important development projects worth over ₹19,680 crore in the state. Assam Mala 3.0 Road Infrastructure Initiative Under this project covering roads, infrastructure, and industrial connectivity, around 900 km of roads will be constructed across the state at a cost of over ₹3,200 crore.

This project will significantly improve interstate connectivity and strengthen links between national highways and rural roads. As a result, the general public, business community, and rural residents will benefit. Road Infrastructure Projects in BTC Region, Under this initiative in the Bodoland Territorial Region, six infrastructure projects will be implemented at a cost of over ₹1,100 crore, including four flyovers and two bridges.

These projects will reduce traffic congestion in Kokrajhar and the entire Bodoland region, while improving the supply of agricultural products, healthcare access, tourism, and rural connectivity. Basbari Railway Periodic Overhaul (POH) Workshop, A railway maintenance workshop will be established at Basbari in Kokrajhar district. This workshop will strengthen railway maintenance capacity and create new employment opportunities for local residents. Launch of Three New Train Services.

To strengthen connectivity between the Northeast and other parts of the country, three new train services have been introduced: Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express connecting the Northeast with South India, Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express connecting Assam with West Bengal, Narengi–Agartala Express improving connectivity between Assam and Tripura, Land Rights for Tea Garden Workers.

 Thousands of tea garden workers have been provided land pattas for housing. This step will ensure residential security and enable them to access bank loans and various welfare schemes. Release of PM-Kisan 22nd Installment, Under the PM-Kisan scheme, more than 9.3 crore farmers across the country will receive over ₹18,600 crore. In Assam, 18.59 lakh farmers will receive ₹371 crore, with ₹2,000 transferred directly to each farmer. Kopili Hydroelectric Project, The Kopili Hydroelectric Project, worth over ₹2,300 crore, will be implemented in Dima Hasao and West Karbi Anglong districts.

This project will increase clean energy production in the Northeast and make electricity supply more stable and reliable. Numaligarh–Siliguri Product Pipeline Expansion, This project will increase the capacity of the Numaligarh Refinery from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA and make the transportation of petroleum products more efficient and streamlined. North-East Gas Grid – Phase I The gas pipeline network will connect Guwahati, Numaligarh, Gohpur, and Itanagar, strengthening the region’s industrial and energy infrastructure. One branch will also extend to Dimapur. POL Terminal of Numaligarh Refinery, A rail-connected POL terminal will be established at Panchgram in Hailakandi district, making fuel distribution in the Northeast more efficient.

Railway Electrification Projects, Several key railway lines in the state have been electrified at a cost of over ₹2,250 crore, including: Rangia–Murkongselek (558 km), Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh (571 km), Badarpur–Silchar and Badarpur–Churaibari sections, Double Line Railway Project, The Furkating–Tinsukia railway line will be doubled over a distance of around 194 km at a cost of over ₹3,600 crore, allowing an increase in both passenger and freight train operations.,

Inland Waterways Development Projects, Several projects have been initiated to strengthen river tourism and water transport on the Brahmaputra, including: Cruise terminals at Biswanath Ghat and Nemati, Regional Centre of Excellence for Maritime Training at Bogibeel, Pandhu Jetty and connecting road to NH-27, Kamakhya Ropeway Project, A ropeway between Kamakhya Railway Station and Kamakhya Temple will transport around 17,000 passengers daily, reducing traffic congestion and boosting tourism.

 PM Ekta Mall in Guwahati, An Ekta Mall will be established in Guwahati to showcase handicrafts, handloom products, GI-tagged items, and ODOP products from the Northeast, turning the region into an important commercial and tourism hub.

Major Infrastructure Announcements During Silchar Visit, On 14 March, several major projects worth over ₹23,550 crore will be announced in Silchar, including: Shillong–Silchar High-Speed Corridor (166 km) costing ₹22,860 crore, Flyover on NH-306 in Silchar, A new Agriculture College at Patharkandi in Karimganj district.

 Overall Impact of the Visit The Prime Minister’s visit has initiated a major infrastructure revolution in Assam across roads, railways, energy, waterways, and education sectors. It will strengthen connectivity between the Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley, accelerate industrial growth, tourism, and agriculture, and further speed up the overall economic development of the state.
