PM Modi meets IPL teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after record-breaking run

BIHAR, MAY 30 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi at Patna Airport Suryavanshi, who returned to his hometown after the Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs, was accompanied by his family during the meeting. Prime Minister Modi later shared photos on social media, praising the young cricketer for his exceptional batting skills.

“At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours,” wrote PM Modi.

Vaibhav was just 13 years old when the Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.1 crore during the mega auction held last year in Jeddah. He made his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, striking a six off the very first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur.

From that moment on, Vaibhav didn’t look back and continued to grow in stature. In seven matches, he scored 252 runs at an average of 36 and an impressive strike rate of 206.55, forming a strong opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

However, it was the match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 28 in Jaipur that truly showcased the best of the left-handed batter. Suryavanshi became the youngest player to score a half-century in T20 cricket and went on to register the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 35 balls. His explosive knock helped the Royals secure a commanding eight-wicket victory.

Suryavanshi finished off his campaign in the IPL with a 57-run knock off 33 balls against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
