PCI Sub-Committee on Accreditation on 3-day visit to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 8: The Press Council of India’s Sub-committee on Accreditation is on a three-day trip to Ahmedabad in Gujarat to asses the situation of accreditation and other related problems.
Committee members Jai Shankar Gupta (Delhi) Prasanna Mohanty (Bhubaneswar) Kingshuk Pramanik (Kolkata), L.C Bhartiya(Jaipur) and Dr Khaidem Authority (Imphal) arrived here on Monday.
During their three-day stay, the committee members will have series of meetings with top officials of information and public relations department of Gujarat government. Also, the committee will have interactions with local journalists.
In some states there is no existence of accreditation committee. In some cases model accreditation rules framed by Press Council of India is not being followed. Also in some states accreditation is being totally controlled by the government.
PCI has constituted a sub-committee to study the situation and report accordingly.
In the meanwhile the Sub-Committee has visited Haryana, West Bengal, Punjab, Chandigarh, Assam, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu. After analysing the situation it has also submitted an interim report before PCI.
