Padma Shri Chaturbhuj Meher gifts Sambalpuri wall-hanging to Prez Murmu

Bhubaneswar,Feb. 23 : Eminent Master Weaver and handloom exponent Padma Shri Chaturbhuj Meher presented a gift of an exquisitely woven wall hanging to Smt Droupadi Murmu, President of India during her visit to Odisha on 10th of February.

 This theme of the work is based on the epic ‘Kanchi Abhijan’ where the panoramas of Lord Jagannath and Balabhadra led the army of Gajapati Maharaja Purusottam Dev in their mission on the Kanchi Kingdom. Under the direct supervision of Padma Shri Meher, this nine feet wall hanging has been designed.

This wall-hanging is a masterpiece of art and a combination of traditional and contemporary weaving styles, where the story of ‘Kanchi Abhijan’ is beautifully displayed. Shilpiguru Sri Meher is a reputed name in Odisha handloom, especially for Sambalpuri saree designs. He is the founder of the popular saree outlet ‘Mehers’ in Bhubaneswar.
