Lt Governor clears Delhi Cabinet reshuffle, Atishi gets finance and revenue

NEW DELHI,JUNE 29 : Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the Cabinet reshuffle with minister Atishi getting the finance and revenue departments. Atishi is now in charge of 12 departments, including education and power.

Earlier, there seemed to be a standoff between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Lt Governor, with AAP accusing him of not approving the file related to the Cabinet reshuffle which was sent four days ago.

The Lt Governor’s office denied the allegation, adding that the file was signed on Wednesday and sent back to the state government. The Delhi government, though, said that it had not received the signed file yet from his office.

There have already been several changes in ministerial posts in the last few months. Following the resignations of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, who are both in jail in separate money laundering cases, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi were sworn in as ministers in March this year.

Atishi represents the Kalkaji constituency and was a key member of Manish Sisodia’s education team. She had also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from the East Delhi constituency and lost to BJP’s Gautam Gambhir.

The Delhi council of ministers has a strength of six, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who doesn’t hold any portfolios.
