Khordha Police Crack Jewellery Shop Loot Case, Two Accused Arrested

Balugaon, Khordha, May 8: Acting swiftly on a major jewellery shop burglary reported from Balugaon, Khordha police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Sagairka Nath, have cracked the case within hours, arresting two accused and recovering a substantial portion of the stolen ornaments.

According to police sources, the incident took place on the night of May 2-3, 2025, at the jewellery shop of Laxmidhar Nayak (53), a resident of Nimikheta village under Balugaon police limits. The culprits reportedly broke into the shop by removing the asbestos roof and decamped with approximately 200 grams of gold and 5 kilograms of silver ornaments, collectively valued at around ₹9 lakh.

The theft came to light when the complainant, Nayak, discovered the burglary the next morning and lodged a formal complaint at Balugaon Police Station on May 3 at 2:45 PM.

Realizing the gravity of the offence, Superintendent of Police, Khordha, promptly formed a special team comprising local police and a special squad. Acting on the directives, multiple raids were conducted based on CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs.

Following intensive investigation, two accused were arrested:

  1. A 41-year-old male, son of Late Baishnaba Das of Balijhari village, Cuttack district, currently residing at Pattna Sahi in Balugaon.
  2. A 23-year-old male, son of Krushna Das of Mansinghpur (Hadakhai) under Nachuni police limits, presently staying at Gopinathpur, Main Road, Balugaon.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of 70 grams of gold ornaments and 4.9 kilograms of silver ornaments from their possession.

Police sources confirmed that one of the arrested accused has a history of criminal activities and is involved in multiple cases registered in different police stations.

The accused are set to be produced before the court shortly, while further investigation is underway to ascertain involvement of any other accomplices and to recover the remaining stolen property.

The swift action of Khordha police has been widely appreciated by local traders and residents, restoring a sense of security in the area.
