BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 27: A pall of gloom descended on Bagapatia village in Odisha’s Kendrapara district after three children died after drowning in a pond on Friday. The deceased minor boys are said to be in the age groups of 10 to 11 years.
As per initial reports, all the children were taking bath in the pond when the mishap occurred at around 1 pm. Though all the minors were rescued and rushed to the nearest hospital, they were declared brought dead by the doctors.
Doctor Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty said, “At around 1:30 PM, I received a phone call that three children have drowned in a pond. I immediately alerted the PHC and I rushed to the spot along with an ambulance. But the children were brought dead to the hospital. As per protocol, police will hand over bodies after the conduct of the post-mortem.”
According to Mohanty, the chances of survival are high if the victims are rescued on time in drowning-related cases. But it appears that the three children were rescued a bit late.
