Bhubaneswar, Nov. 12: Insurers should always foster a human approach towards the insured. This will help build and strengthen between the insurance providers and service holders, said Justice D.P. Choudhury, President, State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC) here at Patha Niwas on Friday on the occasion of the Bima Lokpal Day.

“Insurers have a great role to play to protect and care for the insured. Now, insurance contracts appear to be one-sided. Though the insurance ombudsman is addressing the grievances of insured to a great extent, sometimes these prove to be inadequate. Cases are dragged to the court, thus failing the insured. Lawmakers should take into consideration this aspect,” said Justice Choudhury.

Insurance Ombudsman Manoj Parida, informed that the local office had disposed of 1146 cases of total 1170 cases in the 2021-22 and 801 cases this fiscal.

“This year, 801 cases have been disposed off out of 845 cases by October 31. Our complaint resolution is being effected by video conferencing and telephone discussion. We have future plans to conduct camps in far-off places like Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Jajpur,” said Mr Parida.

Sri Suresh Chandra Panda, Ex-Insurance Ombudsman, Sri P.K. Nayak, Banking Ombudsman, Mrs S. Murmu, secretary of Office of Ombudsman, in their addresses, threw lights on various activities of Insurance Ombudsman in addressing the grievances of the people.
