IGP Satyajit Nayak pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

Cuttack/Odisha, Oct 2 : Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Dr. Satyajit Nayak, IPS, on Thursday paid his tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, recalling the enduring relevance of their ideals of truth, non-violence, simplicity, integrity and selfless service.
In a message issued on the occasion, Dr. Nayak said both national leaders had left a lasting imprint on the country through their lives, principles and dedication to public service. He said their ideals continued to provide guidance to citizens and public servants and remained relevant in the pursuit of a just, peaceful and responsible society.
“Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were two great leaders whose lives continue to inspire generations. Their commitment to truth, non-violence, simplicity, integrity and selfless service remains a source of inspiration for all of us,” Dr. Nayak said.
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle, Dr. Nayak said his philosophy of truth and non-violence had transcended the boundaries of India and continued to influence societies across the world. Gandhi’s emphasis on moral courage, peaceful resistance, social harmony and service to the underprivileged, he said, offered enduring lessons for public life.
He also paid homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri, recalling his reputation for simplicity, honesty, discipline and dedication to the nation. Dr. Nayak said Shastri’s life demonstrated how integrity and commitment to public service could inspire confidence among citizens.
According to Dr. Nayak, the birth anniversaries of the two leaders provide an opportunity not merely to remember their contributions but also to reflect on the values they represented. He said their ideals could guide individuals in discharging their responsibilities towards society with sincerity and a spirit of service.
The IGP said the principles of selfless service and responsibility were particularly important in public service. He emphasised the need for public institutions and personnel to remain committed to the welfare and safety of citizens while carrying out their duties with professionalism, compassion and integrity.
He said the values associated with Gandhi and Shastri should continue to inspire people, particularly the younger generation, to contribute positively to society and the nation.
Dr. Nayak also called upon citizens to draw inspiration from the lives of the two leaders and work towards strengthening social harmony, mutual respect and a sense of collective responsibility.
“The lives and values of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri remain relevant even today. Their ideals of truth, non-violence, simplicity, integrity and selfless service should continue to inspire us to work with dedication for society and the nation,” he said.
The IGP extended his respectful tributes to both national leaders and urged people to uphold the values that shaped their lives and public service.
