By IGP Satyajit Nayak
Cuttack/Odisha, Oct 13 : Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS, has appealed to students to maintain peace, discipline and harmony during student union elections and ensure that the polling process is conducted peacefully without violence or intimidation. He urged student candidates, supporters and their fellow students to uphold democratic values and respect the rights of others while exercising their electoral choices.
Dr Nayak emphasised that student elections should serve as a platform for healthy competition, leadership development and constructive dialogue rather than hostility or confrontation. He called upon students to resolve differences through discussion, refrain from provocative behaviour and avoid spreading rumours or engaging in activities that could disturb the campus atmosphere. He also stressed the importance of respecting the rules laid down by educational institutions and cooperating with the authorities to maintain law and order.
The IGP said that violence has no place in a democratic process and that students should demonstrate maturity and responsibility during campaigning, polling and the declaration of results. He appealed to college authorities, student organisations and candidates to work together to ensure a safe environment for students, teachers and staff.
He also urged students not to allow political or personal differences to disrupt academic activities. Dr Nayak reiterated that the police remain committed to maintaining peace and public safety and that necessary security measures would be taken in accordance with the law wherever required. He appealed to students to celebrate democratic participation through peaceful conduct and mutual respect, adding that a violence-free campus reflects the spirit of education, unity and responsible citizenship.
