Grammys: Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain’s band Shakti bags Global Music Album

FUSION BAND SHAKTI WINS BIG AT THE GRAMMYS

The reassembled international fusion ensemble Shakti has clinched the prestigious award of Best Global Music Album for their latest release, ‘This Moment’.

This marks a significant milestone as it is the group’s first new album in over 45 years. The album boasts eight new compositions by the talented lineup comprising John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

Facing stiff competition at the Grammys from artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido, Shakti emerged victorious, securing the Grammy for Best Global Music Album. This triumph underscores their enduring influence and global acclaim for their distinctive musical fusion.

Israel-Hamas WarA pre-show premiere ceremony preceded the main event, hosted by Justin Tranter, beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, February 4.

The pre-show saw the majority of the Grammy Awards being handed out and can be viewed live on live.Grammy.com. The award show will also be available for live-streaming and on-demand viewing on Paramount+.

Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers can stream the event live, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers can access on-demand content the day after the event, available only to the US audience.
