Government official who won Rs 50 lakh in KBC resigns from post. Then, a twist

Madhya Pradesh,Aug 6:  A woman from Madhya Pradesh revenue department official, who had earlier won Rs 50 lakh on Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show ‘KBC’, resigned from the post of Tehsildar on Friday but withdrew her resignation the next day in a surprise move. Tehsildar Amita Singh Tomar is posted in Sheopur.

Tomar is famous for having won Rs 50 lakh as a contestant on Amitabh Bachchan’s quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ almost a decade ago.

Recently, the newly appointed collector of Sheopur laid down the division of work among government officials. But Amita was upset as she felt she was not assigned important tasks and her seniority was ignored, prompting her to resign.

“For the last five years, I have been insulted. I thought I would be given the charge of the Tehsil when the new Collector was appointed, but that did not happen. I am mentally traumatised by this,” she

Amita Tomar has been in various departments for the past five years without being assigned a specific role. Currently, she holds the position of a chief officer who looks after the land records.

On Saturday, after the Collector appointed tehsildars in all five tehsils of the district, she handed over her resignation to the Assistant Collector and it went viral.

She refrained from giving public statements in front of the press and said her “mental condition is not good”. However, things took a different turn when she submitted an application to the Additional Collector the next day urging him not to accept her resignation.

Sheopur District Collector Sanjay Kumar told India Today, “Tehsildar Amita Singh is a senior tehsildar and she has completed four years here. As per the Election Commission’s regulations, her transfer was due. That is why she was not given a new responsibility. However, being a senior tehsildar, such an action is not appropriate. The matter will be taken up with the senior officials.”

In 2019, she was placed under suspension for uploading an “objectionable” comment on Facebook and was accused of using an expletive with religious undertones in her post.

She also hit the headlines when she wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017 claiming she was being subjected to “repeated transfers”.
