Israeli jets hit Hamas camp in Gaza amid conflict triggered by hunger striker death

NEW DELHI,MAY 3 : Israel carried out airstrikes on Gaza’s Hamas in the early hours of Wednesday, reported news agency AFP. The reports came after the country’s defence forces stated that “dozens of rockets had been fired from Gaza at Israeli civilians”.

The situation escalated after armed groups in Gaza fired rocket barrages toward Israel in response to the death of a Palestinian hunger striker in Israeli custody.

Reports suggest there were multiple airstrikes on several parts of the Gaza Strip and the Israeli military confirmed their targeted “Hamas training camps”.

Taking to Twitter, Israel’s army said these attacks were a ‘reality for many in Israel’. It said, “Dozens of rockets have been fired from Gaza at Israeli civilians, leaving them running to bomb shelters. This has been the reality for many in Israel today.”

Israeli officials said the attacks were in response to strikes ‘throughout the day’ from Gaza.

It claimed over 35 rockets were fired in southern Israel and reported injuries. As per Beijing’s Xinhua News Agency, a Chinese worker has been injured in the attack.
