Dazzling Deepa shines in Odia, Sambalpur, Chhhatisgarh cine world

By Nalini Sahu

Diptimayee, popularly known as Deepa, has carved a niche for herself in the Odia, Sambalpuri and Chhattisgarhi entertainment industry through dedication, hard work and a deep passion for acting. From participating in cultural programmes during her childhood in Belghar in Odisha’s Kandhamal district to becoming a recognised face in music videos and regional entertainment, her journey reflects determination and continuous learning.

A trained artiste with a background in performing arts, Deepa credits her family and mentors for supporting her dream of entering the glamour world. In this candid interaction, she speaks about her early fascination with acting, her struggles, inspirations and future aspirations.

Q: Since when did you develop an interest in acting?

Deepa: I developed a passion for acting from my childhood days. Since then, I dreamt of becoming a successful heroine in the future. From an early age, I was very fond of dressing up stylishly and loved expressing myself through conversations and performances. Compared to studies, I was naturally more inclined towards cultural and creative activities.

During my school days, I actively participated in various cultural programmes and competitions, including singing, dancing, acting, sports, speech and quiz contests. I was also a member of the Scouts during high school. Gradually, I realised that acting was the field in which I wanted to build my career.

My elder sister had once wished to study at the music college but could not fulfill her dream. Later, seeing my deep interest in acting and performing arts, my family — including my parents, sister and brother — encouraged me to pursue my passion. With their support, I took admission in a music college and completed my graduation there. Afterwards, I pursued post-graduation in acting from Utkal University of Culture. With years of learning and experience, I eventually stepped into the entertainment industry.

Q: How did you enter the album and music video industry?

Deepa: After completing my Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) from the music college, I decided to enter the album and music video industry. At that stage, my college senior, Sanjay Baral Bhai, played a major role in guiding and motivating me. His support and encouragement helped me establish myself in the field.

Today, what was earlier known as the album industry is widely recognised as the music video industry. Some of my notable projects include the Odia music video Dil Sanana, the Sambalpuri video Chehera Bali 2.0, and another Odia video Mana Deideli Tate. Apart from these, I have completed several more shoots, which are awaiting release. I hope audiences will continue to shower love and blessings on my upcoming projects as well.

I believe that whatever I have achieved today has been possible because of the blessings of God, the unwavering support of my family — my parents, sister, brother and sister-in-law — and the love and encouragement of the audience. My biggest dream now is to appear on the big screen very soon and entertain audiences through cinema.

Q: When did you take admission in the music college?

Deepa: I took admission in 2015.

Q: Apart from acting, what do you enjoy doing?

Deepa: I love engaging in social service activities.

Q: Who has contributed the most to your success?

Deepa: My success is the result of the constant support and blessings of my family — my mother, father, sister, brother, sister-in-law and my cousin Suresh. I am also deeply grateful to my college senior, Sanjay Baral Bhai, whose guidance helped me enter the entertainment industry.
