CSIR-IMMT Celebrates 62nd Foundation Day with Visionary Lecture on Nation-Building through Science

Bhubaneswar, Apr 16 : The CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar, celebrated its 62nd Foundation Day with great enthusiasm and pride. Established on 13th April 1964 as the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), the institute has played a pivotal role in advancing research and innovation in the field of minerals and materials technology. In 2007, it was renamed as CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) to better reflect its specialized focus and national mission. As 13th April was a holiday this year, the celebrations were held on 16th April 2025.

The formal program began with a Welcome Address delivered by Dr.Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, who reflected on the institute’s glorious journey, achievements, and future aspirations. He emphasized the critical role CSIR-IMMT continues to play in fostering technological advancements and sustainable development.

The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. Sekhar C. Mande, former Director General of CSIR and Secretary, DSIR, Government of India. Dr.Mande delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “S&T Road Map for Making of Vikashit Bharat”. In his thought-provoking talk, he outlined the roadmap for leveraging science and technology to transform India into a developed nation, highlighting innovation, integration of knowledge systems, and the role of institutions like CSIR-IMMT in nation-building.

As part of the celebration, newly recruited staff members—including Technicians, Security Assistant, Assistant Section Officers (ASOs), and Section Officers (SOs)—were warmly welcomed and felicitated. Their induction marks a new chapter of growth and capacity-building for the institute.

The day-long celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural program in the evening, showcasing the artistic talents of CSIR-IMMT staffs, students and their family members. The event brought together the institute’s community in a spirit of camaraderie, creativity, and celebration.

CSIR-IMMT reaffirms its commitment to excellence in research, innovation, and service to the nation, as it continues its journey toward empowering India’s minerals and materials sector.
