Covid cases dip for 2nd straight day as India logs 7,178 infections in last 24 hours
NEW DELHI,APR 24 : India witnessed a dip in Covid cases on Monday (April 24) as 7,178 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours compared to 10,112 logged on Sunday. The number of active cases declined to 65,683 on Monday.
Covid cases, which rose to 12,193 on Saturday, have declined for the second day.
Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 545 fresh coronavirus cases and two fatalities, while Delhi logged 948 fresh COVID-19 infections and two fatalities with a case positivity rate of 25.69.
The dip comes after the Centre on Friday asked eight states including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra to maintain a strict watch and take preemptive action in any area of concern to control any emerging spread of infection.
Underlining that Covid is still not over, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a letter to Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Haryana and Delhi urged them to remain cautious against laxity at any level, saying that may nullify the gains made in pandemic management so far.
