Coimbatore DIG dies by suicide; preliminary inquiry reveals depression as cause
COIMBATORE,JULY 7: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police (Coimbatore Circle) C Vijayakumar shot himself at his house at Redfields in the city today morning.
He was aged around 45 and was residing with his family at his quarters at Red Fields in Coimbatore city. On Friday morning around 6.15 am, he ended life by shooting himself using his service revolver, said sources. The investigation to ascertain the reason for his death is on.
The preliminary inquiry revealed that he went to the extreme step due to severe depression.
His body was taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Senior police officials have camped at his house.

Vijayakumar took charge as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Coimbatore range on January 6, 2023. He succeeded MS Muthusamy, who was transferred and posted as the DIG, Vellore range.

Vijayakumar, a 2009-batch IPS officer has served as the superintendent of police of Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur districts. His last posting was in Chennai, where he served as the deputy commissioner of police, Anna Nagar.
