Central forces to implement 10% reservation for ex-Agniveers in vacancies

NEW DELHI,JULY 11 : Former Agniveers will now get a 10 per cent reservation in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Forces (BSF), and Railway Protection Forces (RPF). The reservation for ex-Agniveers in the central security forces was announced by the Union Home Ministry last year.Speaking with the media, Director-General of the RPF, Manoj Yadava, stated, “In the future, all recruitment for the constable post in the Railway Protection Force will have a 10% reservation for ex-agencies. RPF is very excited to welcome former Agniveers. It will give new strength and energy and boost the morale of the force.”

Meanwhile, the Director-General, Neena Singh, stated that the CISF has also made all preparations in this regard. “10% of vacancies in constables will be reserved for ex-agencies. Additionally, they will be given relaxation in the Physical Efficiency Test,” she stated.

“We are getting ready, soldiers; nothing can be better than that. All forces will benefit from it. Ex-agniveers will get a 10% reservation in the recruitment,” BSF Director General Nitin Agrawal said.

The Agnipath scheme, rolled out on June 14, 2022, provides for the recruitment of youth between the age groups of 17.5 and 21 years for four years, with a provision to retain 25 percent of them for 15 more years in the Indian Armed Forces. The government extended the upper age limit to 23 years later that year.

In the recently concluded parliamentary session, the opposition cornered the government over the Agniapth scheme, with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accusing the Centre of considering the Agniveers as “use-and-throw laborers.”.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s accusations, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Congress MP should not mislead the Parliament, adding that an Agniveer who lays down his life in the line of duty gets a compensation of Rs 1 crore.

Following this, Rahul Gandhi claimed on his social media handle that Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family did not receive any compensation from the government.

In response, the Indian Army issued a statement on July 3 saying that the family of the agniveer would receive financial assistance of Rs 1.65 crore and that the emoluments due to a fallen hero would be paid expeditiously to their next of kin. The Army stated that the family of Agniveer Ajay Kumar had already been paid Rs 98.39 lakh of the due amount.
