CBI arrests ECoR office superintendent in bribery case

Bhubaneswar, March 28:  The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested an office superintendent working at the office of AEN at Kirandul under Waltair division of the East Coast Railways (ECoR) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor to clear his bills.

According to CBI sources, the accused office superintendent had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 31,000 from the complainant for getting released the bills of a construction firm against two contracts being executed by the firm with the ECoR.

The accused contacted the complainant and initially demanded a bribe of Rs 31,000 at 0.5 per cent of the amount of bills so far passed and paid to said firm against two contract agreements and for processing the further bills of the company without any hurdle.

The CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.

The accused was produced in the local Jurisdictional Court and remanded in judicial custody.
