BJD MLA Bishnu Charan Das, 66, dies of brain stroke

Jagatsinghpur, July 6: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Tirtol, Bishnu Charan Das, passed away at a private hospital here on Monday evening, family sources informed.
The 67-year-old Tirtol legislator was hospitalised on June 22 in Bhubaneswar after he suffered brain stroke.
He was suffering from various ailments.
The legislator, who was in ICU of the Apollo Hospital, passed away at 7:50 PM.
Das was elected to the State Legislative Assembly five times from Jagatsinghpur and once from Tirtol constituencies.
In 2019 elections, the senior BJD leader was elected to Assembly from Tirtol Assembly seat.
He was also nominated by the BJD for biennial Rajya Sabha elections in the year 2016. He was elected unopposed with senior BJD leaders Prasanna Acharya and N Bhaskar Rao.
Later, he resigned as the Rajya Sabha MP in 2017 after being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Odisha State Planning Board.
