Balangir: Rajendra University marks fifth Foundation Day with academic and cultural fervor

Balangir, Sept. 4: Rajendra University, one of western Odisha’s premier institutions of higher learning, celebrated its fifth Foundation Day on Wednesday with a grand ceremony that brought together faculty, students, alumni, and eminent scholars.
The event, held on the university premises, was presided over by Dr. Pratap Kumar Dash, Chairman of the Graduate Council and Acting Vice-Chancellor. Registrar Haraprasad Bhoi presented the university’s annual report, highlighting achievements and milestones.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Gopal Sahu, Head of the Department of Philosophy at Allahabad University, underscored the indispensable role of education in nation-building and India’s future development.
Dr. Rajkishore Patra, Director of the Human Resource Development Council, reflected on the institution’s journey from a college to a university, while the Controller of Examinations detailed initiatives taken under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster innovation and skill development among students.
Sahitya Akademi award-winning writer Gayatri Saraf, the guest of honour, joined dignitaries in releasing Home Beneath the Drape, the English translation of the Odia short story collection Panata Kanire Ghara by Dr. Dash.
The celebration also featured cultural performances by university students, which added colour and vibrancy to the day. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sushant Kumar Panda, Head of the Department of Odia Language and Literature, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
The occasion was attended by syndicate members, invited guests, alumni, media representatives, and faculty from affiliated colleges, marking a day of pride and reflection for the young university.
