Assam DIET Institutions Must Focus on Ensuring Quality Education for Every Student: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu

Guwahati, Sep 11: Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu participated in a two-day consultative meeting with the state’s DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) institutions at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara, Guwahati, with the objective of ensuring quality education in schools across the state.
During the two-day meeting, various initiatives undertaken by the DIETs in the recent past were reviewed. Discussions focused particularly on the progress of the PARAKH National Survey, competency-based assessment, and programmes related to foundational literacy and numeracy.
The Education Minister urged the DIETs to give special emphasis to ensuring that even the last student in society receives quality education. He particularly stressed the need for special support and care to help slow-learning students progress, and emphasised giving equal attention to every student.
Dr. Pegu said both teachers and students must become familiar and proficient with new technologies. He said the quality of education can be further improved through the appropriate use of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the teaching-learning process. Education, he observed, should not be confined merely to achieving good examination results; equal importance must be given to “intellectual development through reading and writing.”
The Education Minister said that the Bodhan AI initiative, being taken forward with the support of the Education Department, would encourage AI-based learning and help teachers create and share quality educational content in local and mother tongues.
He also mentioned plans to establish Vidya Samiksha Kendras in every DIET. He said that the use of AI, machine learning and integrated data would strengthen real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making in the education sector.
The Education Minister further emphasised the need to publish electronically the books already brought out by the state’s DIET institutions. He also urged the DIETs to use digital and social media platforms to take their knowledge, research, educational resources and innovative activities to a larger number of teachers and students.
It may be mentioned that the two-day meeting was attended by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Dr. Nirada Devi, along with principals and lecturers of DIET institutions from all districts of the state.
