Another New 11 kV UG Cable Made Operational in Sambalpur Town

By Swagatika Mohapatra

Burla, May 15 : TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and Government of Odisha, is happy to announce the successful completion and commissioning of the 11kV underground (UG) cable project from Ainthapali 33/11KV Power Substation (PSS) to Jyoti Market in Sambalpur town. This underground cable laying work has completed at a cost of Rs. Rs.1.24 Crores.

The main objective of this project is to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to vital commercial zones such as Budharaja, Fatak Area, Jyoti Market, Dehuripali, Santinagar, Matru Bihar, benefitting over 5,000 consumers, including domestic and major commercial consumers of those areas.

Previously, these areas were prone to frequent outages due to the overhead connectivity, especially during seasonal storms like Kalabaisakhi and other natural calamities. The new underground cable system significantly reduces transient faults and power disruptions, improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply.

However, this feeder will serve as an alternative power source (backup) to the existing 11KV Fatak Overhead Feeder, enhancing overall supply security.

This new underground cable line stretches over 1.9 circuit kilometres (CKM), using 3-core 300 sqmm UG cable. The system is designed to support future demand and reduce overburden on existing infrastructure. The project is also expected to support uninterrupted power during important events such as Shital Sasthi, a major festival in Sambalpur Town.

TPWODL remains committed to upgrade the existing and modernize the power infrastructure of Western Odisha by embracing reliable and sustainable solutions like underground cabling, power supply in ring system and etc.
